(Adnkronos) - Un neonato di 40 giorni è stato salvato dalla cecità con un intervento di chirurgia in entrambi gli occhi utilizzando la tecnologia in 3D. L’operazione, eseguita nel reparto di oculistica delle Molinette della Città della Salute di Torino, è il primo intervento al mondo che ha utilizzato questo tipo di chirurgia su un bimbo di pochi giorni. Il piccolo paziente era affetto da cataratta congenita associata ad una rarissima e grave patologia della parte posteriore dell’occhio, causata da un incompleto sviluppo anatomico dell’occhio.
Alla nascita il bimbo non presentava alcun problema di salute, ma già nei primissimi giorni di vita è stata rilevata la presenza di un anomalo riflesso bianco, leucocoria, in corrispondenza della pupilla che ha consentito un intervento tempestivo per garantire un possibile sviluppo della capacità visiva. Se, infatti, non si fosse intervenuti entro pochi giorni, il bambino sarebbe inevitabilmente andato incontro ad una condizione di cecità, senza possibilità successiva di un recupero della vista. Dopo l'operazione, il piccolo paziente sarà sottoposto a monitoraggio postoperatorio per valutare la risposta dell'occhio alla chirurgia e garantire il miglior recupero visivo possibile.
“La tempestività dell'intervento e la competenza degli specialisti di tutti gli ospedali della Città della Salute di Torino sono state determinanti per offrire al neonato una possibilità concreta di vedere la bellezza del mondo attorno a sé”, ha commentato Federico Riboldi, assessore alla Sanità della Regione Piemonte e Giovanni La Valle, direttore generale della Città della Salute di Torino ha aggiunto: “L’intervento rappresenta un esempio significativo dei progressi della chirurgia oculistica e di come l’utilizzo delle innovazioni tecnologiche alla Città della Salute di Torino permettano di affrontare i casi più complessi, fino a poco tempo fa ritenuti non trattabili”.
