(Adnkronos) - "Con Manuzio è nata la lettura per diletto, il libro è andato dietro al lettore, non il contrario. Nasceva così una lettura silenziosa e individuale per piacere. Vorrei rappresentare però anche ciò che recita il motto della manifestazione, ‘Radici nel futuro’: così come Manuzio ha inventato la lettura per diletto, anche Steve Jobs, come Manuzio ha creato un bisogno. Quello dello smartphone. Entrambi hanno modificato il nostro modo di vivere, ma se nei libri di Manuzio non c'è un solo errore, nello smartphone ci trovi tutto e il contrario di tutto”. Sono le parole di Umberto Vattani, ambasciatore Italia in Germania e presidente della Venice University, durante il panel “La cultura che unisce. Da Manuzio all’ebook”, uno dei numerosi incontri della prima giornata della Buchmesse di Francoforte dove l’Italia è Ospite d’Onore.
Ed è stato proprio un italiano, il veneziano Aldo Manuzio, a cambiare la storia del libro: “Pochi sanno che intorno alla fine del 1400 e l'inizio del 1500, Aldo Manuzio iniziava a lavorare a una nuova forma di libro. Una grande personalità italiana che ha rivoluzionato il libro riducendone nettamente le dimensioni: piega il foglio in otto volte, segna sul frontespizio il nome dell'autore e pone il primo logo, l'ancora, la prudenza e il delfino, la velocità. Un modo per dire affrettati lentamente, senza fare errori”, racconta.
Gli ha fatto eco Massimo Bray, ex ministro e direttore generale Istituto Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani: “Manuzio capisce che i manoscritti bisogna conoscerli, non solo copiarli. Il fatto che abbia ridotto le dimensioni del libro contiene l'intento di divulgarli. La sua modernità sta anche nel capire quanto sia importante la distribuzione di un libro. Capisce che il libro è uno strumento democratico che non deve essere riservato solo ai colti. 'Radici nel futuro' è un titolo importante - aggiunge Bray - Come Treccani compiamo 100 anni. Abbiamo conservato nel corso di un secolo un patrimonio culturale. Il confronto con le tecnologie digitali può essere vinto e la cultura italiana può arrivare alle nuove generazioni”, conclude.
