(Adnkronos) - Israele "non voleva questa guerra", ma "vinceremo con chi sta dalla parte giusta della storia, con i nostri amici in Italia è nel mondo". Lo ha detto l’ambasciatore designato di Israele in Italia Jonathan Peled, durante la commemorazione del 7 ottobre alla sinagoga di Roma. "Israele è fortunato ad avere con l’Italia un buon amico in Europa e nel mondo. L’Italia non ha mai fatto mancare la sua piena solidarietà e il sostegno al diritto di Israele all'autodifesa. Non è una cosa che diamo per scontata, e confidiamo che questo sostegno non venga meno", ha aggiunto
Secondo Peled "Israele continuerà a fare di tutto per riportare a casa sani e salvi i nostri fratelli e le nostre sorelle che sono ancora tenuti in ostaggio a Gaza". Israele, ha proseguito "continuerà a difendersi, e a cercare la pace con tutti coloro che sono disposti a fare la pace. Non ci riusciremo da soli. Ci riusciremo assieme a tutti voi, a tutti i nostri amici in Italia e nel mondo, e a tutti coloro che sono dalla parte giusta della storia".
Pelled ha sottolineato che "Israele non voleva questa guerra, ma ha diritto a difendersi". "I terroristi non rappresentano la causa palestinese, ma la usano come scudo umano". Il diplomatico ha aggiunto che quella "che Israele sta conducendo è una guerra non solo per se stessi, ma anche per l’Italia, l’Europa, l’Occidente contro l’Islam radicale".
"Israele è contro la guerra totale”, ha sostenuto, affermando che "il mondo deve fare di tutto per evitare che Iran abbia l'arma nucleare". Concludendo, l’ambasciatore designato ha detto che "non possiamo perdere questa guerra ed è per questo che la vinceremo", in gioco c’è l'esistenza di Israele.
Alla cerimonia la zia della piccola Avigail Idan
Durante la cerimonia l'ambasciatore designato di Israele insieme Ella Mor, zia di Avigail Idan, la bimba di 4 anni rapita da Hamas il 7 ottobre e liberata dopo 50 giorni, hanno acceso una candela di commemorazione.
I genitori della bambina sono stati uccisi mentre gli altri due fratellini si sono nascosti nell'armadio e sono riusciti a salvarsi. Mor, che ha scelto di venire in Italia invece di essere in Israele per le commemorazioni, ha letto un toccante discorso sull'importanza di continuare a combattere per la libertà degli ostaggi e per sostenere Israele contro i terroristi.
