(Adnkronos) - I caccia dell'aeronautica militare israeliana hanno sganciato durante la notte circa 73 tonnellate di bombe sul sobborgo di Dahieh, alla periferia sud di Beirut, la roccaforte di Hezbollah. Lo scrive il sito di Ynet affermando che l'attacco aveva come obiettivo il bunker dove si nasconderebbe il presunto possibile nuovo leader di Hezbollah Hashem Safieddine.Â
Secondo il New York Times, quando è avvenuto l'attacco era in corso una riunione di esponenti di alto livello di Hezbollah in un bunker sotterraneo. Funzionari israeliani ritengono che Safieddine potrebbe aver perso la vita nel raid, ma non ci sono conferme.Â
L'attacco, iniziato verso mezzanotte, è stato lanciato dopo che il portavoce in lingua araba delle Idf, il maggiore Avichay Adaree, aveva avvertito i residenti della zona di evacuare rapidamente in luoghi sicuri se si trovavano vicino a siti di Hezbollah.Â
Negli ultimi quattro giorni, le Forze di difesa israeliane hanno comunque ucciso 250 "terroristi di Hezbollah" nel sud del Libano. Inoltre da quando è iniziata la 'limitata incursione' di terra sono stati colpiti oltre duemila obiettivi militari, tra cui infrastrutture terroristiche, edifici militari, depositi di armi e siti per il lancio dei razzi. Tra i terroristi uccisi anche cinque comandanti di battaglione, dieci di compagni e sei comandanti di dipartimenti.Â
Stando all'Idf, le capacità militari di Hezbollah sono state danneggiate, ma l'organizzazione è ancora in grado di sferrare attacchi contro il fronte interno israeliano. Ci vorranno diverse settimane prima che i residenti delle regioni settentrionali di Israele possano rientrare nelle loro case la stima fatta dalle Forze di difesa di Israele, con una precisazione: anche allora, l'Idf non sarà in grado di garantire che non ci saranno attacchi con razzi o missili.Â
