(Adnkronos) - "Ho ottimi rapporti con Putin". Donald Trump accoglie Volodymyr Zelensky alla Trump Tower di New York e si cala nel ruolo di potenziale mediatore per porre fine alla guerra tra Ucraina e Russia. Il candidato repubblicano alla Casa Bianca si presenta davanti ai cronisti con Zelensky per dichiarazioni che riguardano tanto le elezioni americane quanto il conflitto.Â
"Mancano 37 giorni alle elezioni, sono in vantaggio nei sondaggi, vediamo come andrà ". La guerra "deve finire ad un certo punto. Questo paese (l'Ucraina, ndr) sta vivendo una situazione infernale", dice Trump, che - dopo le considerazioni critiche espresse nei giorni scorsi - oggi mostra profondo apprezzamento per Zelensky soprattutto per un motivo.Â

"Zelensky è stato come un pezzo d'acciaio quando c'è stata l'inchiesta sull'impeachment: ha detto 'il presidente Trump non ha fatto nulla di sbagliato' e l'inchiesta è morta lì", dice il tycoon. Il presidente ucraino è stato coinvolto nel caso del primo processo di impeachment di Trump: 5 anni fa, i democratici indagavano sull'ipotesi che Trump avesse bloccato un pacchetto di aiuti militari e negato una visita alla Casa Bianca all'allora appena insediato presidente ucraino.Â
Le parole di Zelensky, dice Trump, hanno contribuito a far archiviare la vicenda. "Abbiamo un ottimo rapporto", dice l'ex presidente, prima di 'gelare' il suo omologo. "Ho un ottimo rapporto anche con il presidente Putin". Una frase che, inevitabilmente, innesca la reazione di Zelensky: "Spero che noi avremo relazioni migliori...", dice il presidente ucraino. L'ultima parola, però, spetta ancora a Trump: "Bisogna essere in due per ballare il tango... Se vinco le elezioni, prima di insediarmi credo sarà possibile fare qualcosa di positivo per entrambe le parti".Â
