(Adnkronos) - Per punire l'amministrazione Biden-Harris per il sostegno a Israele nella guerra a Gaza, e ora in Libano, molti arabo americani vogliono votare Donald Trump, che rivendica di essere il presidente più filoisraeliano della storia e che nel primo giorno del suo primo mandato varò il 'muslim ban', il controverso divieto di ingresso negli Usa per i cittadini di una lista di Paesi arabi e musulmani. E' questo il paradosso indicato dai sondaggi, come quello di Arab New/You Gov, che registrano come l'ex presidente sia avanti di due punti rispetto alla candidata democratica, tra gli elettori arabo-americani. Â
E un sondaggio dell'inizio del mese, dell'Arab American Institute, indicava un vantaggio addirittura di quattro punti, il 46% contro il 42%. Non solo, secondo il sondaggio più recente, il repubblicano viene considerato significativamente più in grado di mettere fine al conflitto in Medio Oriente, il 39% contro il 33%. Anche se, a conferma del paradosso, Trump viene considerato, con un margine di sei punti, molto più a sostegno dell'attuale governo israeliano di quanto lo sia Harris. Â
Il dato preoccupante per i dem è quindi che, a due settimane dal voto, Harris ha 18 punti in meno di quelli che aveva Joe Biden nel 2020 tra gli elettori arabo americani, che quindi potrebbero risultare la carta vincente a sorpresa di Trump. Soprattutto in uno stato chiave come il Michigan dove si trova la principale comunità arabo americana del Paese, oltre 200mila persone. E dove le ultime due elezioni sono state vinte per un pugno di voti: 150mila da Biden nel 2020 e addirittura 11mila da Trump nel 2016. Â
Non a caso, proprio ieri, Trump ha rivolto un appello agli elettori arabo americani su Truth Social: "Se Kamala ottiene altri quattro anni, il Medio Oriente trascorrerà i prossimi quattro decenni in fiamme, i vostri figli andranno in guerra, forse persino una Terza Guerra Mondiale, una cosa che non succederà mai con il presidente Trump in carica". "Per il bene del vostro Paese e dei vostri figli votate Trump per la pace". Â
Ma le simpatie verso Trump all'interno della comunità arabo-americana non vanno ricercate solo, o non tanto, tra il 29% degli intervistati che ritiene il conflitto israelo-palestinese come il principale problema, ma anche, e forse soprattutto, tra il 21% che considera la questione più urgente l'economia, su cui, è noto, il tycoon ha un netto vantaggio, tra tutti i gruppi elettorali, su Harris. Â
Basti pensare che alla fine di settembre Amer Ghalib, il sindaco democratico di Hamtramck, cittadina del Michigan dove tutti i funzionari eletti sono musulmani, ha dato il suo sostegno al repubblicano.". "Il presidente Trump ed io possiamo non essere d'accordo su tutto, ma lui è un uomo di principi", dichiarò allora Ghalib, arrivato come rifugiato dallo Yemen a 17 anni, che guida la cittadina di 28mila persone, spiegando che votare l'ex presidente sia "la scelta giusta in questo momento crucialeÂ
La scorsa settimana Trump si è recato a fare campagna elettorale a Hamtramck e per Ghalib è stata l'occasione di spiegare perché ha voltato le spalle al suo partito per sostenere il repubblicano: "E' stata l'unione di due cose, delusione e speranza - ha detto intervistato da Sky News - delusione per il modo in cui l'attuale amministrazione sta gestendo le cose a livello locale e internazionale e speranza che la nuova amministrazione, guidata da Trump, lo faccia in modo diverso". Â
Ad avvicinare poi la comunità arabo americana a Trump e ai conservatori c'e' poi anche la questione dei valori considerati troppo liberal, in particolare in materia Lgbt, dei democratici ."C'è troppa aggressione e tentativi in imporre certi valori sulla maggioranza di questa comunità nelle scuole, sul suolo pubblico", ha detto il sindaco che nei mesi scorsi ha bloccato il tentativo di issare una bandiera del pride su edifici cittadini. Â
