(Adnkronos) - L'uragano Milton sta per abbattersi sulla Florida. Mentre sta ancora affrontando gli effetti dell'uragano Helene, la stato si prepara all'arrivo di nuovo uragano che ha rapidamente acquisito potenza fino a diventare una tempesta di categoria 4.
Lo Stato sta ancora contando i danni provocati da Helene, che il 26 settembre ha colpito la regione Big Bend come uragano di categoria 4, uccidendo almeno 232 persone in tutto il sud-est e lasciando oltre 800 km di distruzione causati da inondazioni e venti catastrofici.
Secondo quanto ha annunciato il National Hurricane Center, l'arrivo di Milton è accompagnato da raffiche di vento fino a 240 km orari. Si prevede che colpisca tra Cedar Key e Naples, includendo l'area di Tampa verso metà settimana.
Per Miami, Orlando e Tampa sono previsti da 5 a 20 centimetri di pioggia fino a giovedì. Secondo il centro uragani, alcune aree dello Stato potrebbero ricevere più di 38 centimetri di pioggia. “Milton sarà una tempesta storica per la costa occidentale della Florida”, ha dichiarato il Servizio meteorologico nazionale di Tampa Bay in un briefing questa mattina.
Il governatore Ron DeSantis ha dichiarato lo stato di emergenza a 51 contee e ha avvertito i cittadini della Florida di prepararsi a più interruzioni di corrente, assicurandosi di avere cibo e acqua per una settimana e di essere pronti a mettersi in viaggio. DeSantis ha spiegato che, nonostante il punto preciso in cui Milton toccherà terra non è ancora chiaro, la Florida sarà duramente colpita.
Le autorità hanno emesso ordini di evacuazione obbligatori per alcune parti della contea di Pasco e dell'isola di Anna Maria vicino a Tampa a partire da oggi, mentre altre località hanno chiesto ai residenti di evacuare. Le evacuazioni includono anche i residenti che vivono in case mobili, in zone basse e soggette a inondazioni.
Le autorità hanno affermato che, oltre all'ondata di tempesta di Milton, i detriti di Helene renderanno difficile ai soccorritori raggiungere le persone in difficoltà nei prossimi due giorni.
