(Adnkronos) - Nel mondo il cancro è responsabile di un decesso su sei. Nel 2022 sono stati stimati 20 milioni di nuovi casi e 9,7 milioni di decessi. Si prevede che nel 2050 le nuove diagnosi saranno oltre 35 milioni, con un aumento del 77% rispetto al 2022. Il rapido aumento del carico oncologico globale riflette sia l'invecchiamento della popolazione, sia i cambiamenti nell'esposizione delle persone ai fattori di rischio, molti dei quali sono associati allo sviluppo socioeconomico. L'inquinamento atmosferico rimane un fattore di rischio ambientale di primaria importanza. L’aumento dell’incidenza tumorale coincide con l’inevitabile innalzamento dei costi pubblici che gravano sulla spesa sociale delle famiglie, rafforzando le disparità sociali e territoriali e gravando, inoltre, sul Sistema sanitario nazionale. Â
E' quanto emerso dal convegno nazionale organizzato dall’Associazione italiana contro le leucemie, i linfomi e il mieloma dal titolo (Ail) 'Curare è prendersi cura. Impatto ambientale e rischio sanitario, benessere e stili di vita', con il patrocinio di ministero dell’Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica, Regione Lazio, Roma Capitale, Arma dei Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, Aieop, Fil, Gitmo, Sie e Sies. Â
Obiettivo di Ail mettere in evidenza che curare e prendersi cura dei cittadini vuol dire anche ridurre il rischio sanitario dovuto all’inquinamento, facendo propria la considerazione dell’Oms che richiama l’attenzione sul fatto che "circa il 22% delle malattie globali sia dovuto all’esposizione a fattori ambientali modificabili; questa percentuale sale tra il 23 e il 26% nei bambini. Gran parte di questi rischi, però, potrebbero essere evitati attraverso la riduzione del rischio ambientale". Â
"Questo convegno nasce dalla consapevolezza che è possibile intervenire su alcuni fattori ambientali e comportamentali per ridurre il rischio sanitario - ha detto Giuseppe Toro, presidente nazionale di Ail - Ail intende contribuire alla riduzione del rischio sanitario, scavando nei fattori sociali e ambientali che aumentano questo pericolo. La prevenzione non potrà continuare ad essere la 'cenerentola' degli interventi sulla salute". Â
Toro ha poi ricordato che in Italia, "nel periodo 2007-2019, sono state evitate 268.471 morti di cancro, registrando una riduzione del 20,4% delle morti oncologiche. Nel 2020 3,5 milioni di italiani - ha poi aggiunto - hanno superato la diagnosi di tumore e che hanno potuto riprendere a vivere una vita piena e libera dai tumori. Questa riduzione della mortalità è rappresentativa di una maggiore capacità di curare e fronteggiare l'insorgenza dei tumori da parte del Ssn. Quindi un risultato raggiunto nel nostro Paese, anche grazie agli importanti progressi. Tuttavia, è importante ricordare che le nuove cure sono sempre più costose per le famiglie, per il sistema sociale e per il Ssn". Â
