(Adnkronos) - "La terapia antiretrovirale a lungo effetto, la long acting, è un'opzione promettente nella gestione dell'Hiv, poiché offre vantaggi significativi per la qualità di vita dei pazienti. E' una terapia a lunga durata d'azione, circa 2 mesi, e questa è una grossa innovazione, ma siamo solo all'inizio di questa rivoluzione perché sono allo studio farmaci che possono essere somministrati ogni 6 mesi magari con impianti sottocutanei". Così Paolo Maggi, professore associato presso l'Università degli Studi della Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, nel suo intervento in occasione del Convegno 'Le malattie infettive nel setting del paziente immunocompromesso', in corso a Napoli con focus sull'Hiv, patologia che in Campania vede stabili i numeri dei nuovi casi, ma registra anche limiti all'accesso a nuove e innovative cure come il long acting.Â
"Fino a 10-15 anni fa, i pazienti con Hiv prendevano fino a 10 15 compresse al giorno. Con sforzi enormi siamo arrivati alla somministrazione di una compressa e oggi, grazie alla terapia long acting, il paziente ha una copertura molto più lunga con vantaggi notevoli", ha aggiunto Maggi che ha sottolineato anche un altro aspetto: "In Campania l'accesso a questa cura è limitato. Questi farmaci possono essere erogati solo con prestazioni ambulatoriali. La Campania è una delle poche Regioni che ha una gestione dei pazienti con Hiv in Day hospital e se sono seguiti in Day hospital non possono avere questo farmaco. Stiamo dicendo no a tanti, troppi pazienti, e la probabilità che vadano altrove a farsi curare è sicuramente alta. Questo perché le persone con Hiv sono molto diverse rispetto ad anni fa: sono persone colte, informate, sanno che esiste questo tipo di terapia, la richiedono ed è un problema non poterli soddisfare. E' essenziale - ha concluso - che le autorità sanitarie e le organizzazioni locali lavorino per migliorare l'accesso alle terapie, garantendo che tutti i pazienti possano beneficiare di queste innovazioni".Â
