(Adnkronos) - La 19esima edizione della Festa del Cinema di Roma, in programma dal 16 al 27 ottobre 2024, assegnerà il Premio alla carriera a Viggo Mortensen e a Johnny Depp. Il riconoscimento a Mortensen verrà assegnato in occasione della presentazione del suo nuovo film, 'The Dead Don’t Hurt' (I morti non feriscono), da lui scritto, diretto e interpretato. L’attore, artista, regista e produttore statunitense sarà inoltre protagonista di una masterclass con il pubblico della Festa. Â
Ambientato a metà Ottocento, 'The Dead Don’t Hurt' (secondo film di Viggo Mortensen come regista e sceneggiatore dopo 'Falling – Storia di un padre' - 2020) è un raffinato western femminista con protagonisti lo stesso Mortensen e Vicky Krieps nei panni di due immigrati che cercano di costruirsi una vita in una cittadina corrotta del Nevada. Vivienne, una fioraia franco-canadese, indipendente e ribelle, vede la sua vita stravolta quando il suo compagno si unisce alla guerra civile. Rimasta sola, deve affrontare le violente attenzioni indesiderate del figlio di un potente allevatore locale. Con una struttura narrativa che alterna passato e presente, tra paesaggi mozzafiato e interpretazioni eccellenti, Mortensen si serve del western per restituirci il ritratto appassionato di una donna forte e determinata. Â
Premio alla carriera anche a Johnny Depp che, in occasione della Festa del Cinema di Roma, presenterà al pubblico 'Modì', la sua seconda opera da regista dopo l’esordio nel 1997 con 'Il coraggioso'. Nel cast del nuovo film Riccardo Scamarcio, Antonia Desplat, Bruno Gouery, Ryan McParland, Stephen Graham, Luisa Ranieri, Al Pacino. Â
La pellicola non è una biopic, ma solo 72 ore nella vita di Amedeo Modigliani, Modì per i francesi che nel 1916 è in fuga dalla polizia, a Parigi. Il pittore vorrebbe abbandonare la città dove è vissuto a lungo, mentre gli amici Utrillo e Soutine e la musa Beatrice Hastings cercano di convincerlo a restare e a continuare a dipingere. Attraverso una notte di allucinazioni e di incontri, con l’amico mercante d’arte e con un collezionista americano, la sua storia cambia. Il progetto, basato sulla commedia Modigliani di Dennis McIntyre, nasce decenni fa, proposto ad Al Pacino, rimandato, sospeso, dimenticato, ritornato con Johnny Depp alla regia, Pacino tra i produttori e nei panni del collezionista, Mary e Jerzy Kromolowski alla sceneggiatura e Riccardo Scamarcio protagonista.
