(Adnkronos) - L'attore statunitense John Amos, protagonista della miniserie televisiva 'Radici' (1977) interpretando il ruolo dello schiavo Kunta Kinte adulto, ruolo per il quale ottenne una nomination all'Emmy Award, è morto all'età di 84 anni a Los Angeles per cause naturali. La scomparsa è avvenuta lo scorso 21 agosto ma il figlio Kelly Christopher Amos ha diffuso solo oggi la notizia con un comunicato: "È con sincera tristezza che vi comunico che mio padre è passato a miglior vita. Era un uomo gentilissimo e un cuore d'oro ed era amato in tutto il mondo. Molti fan lo considerano il loro padre televisivo. Ha vissuto una bella vita. La sua eredità vivrà nei suoi eccezionali lavori televisivi e cinematografici come attore".Â
Sul piccolo schermo, Amos ha impersonato il personaggio di Gordy Howard, il meteorologo della sit-com 'Mary Tyler Moore Show' (1970-1973), e quello di James Evans Sr., il padre disoccupato cronico, nell'altra sit-com degli anni settanta 'Good Times' (1974-1976), da cui poi fu essere licenziato per essersi lasciato prendere la mano dal suo temperamento. Amos ha seguito interpretato il ruolo del capitano Dolan nel telefilm 'Hunter' (1984-1985), è stato co-protagonista nel dramma poliziesco 'The District' e ha partecipato a diversi episodi di altre serie televisive come 'I Robinson', 'Willy, il principe di Bel-Air' e 'A-Team'. Â
La sua carriera sul grande schermo era iniziata con il classico blaxploitation 'Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song' (1971) di Melvin Van Peebles, e ha interpretato il direttore di un ristorante che assume un principe africano (Eddie Murphy) e il suo braccio destro (Arsenio Hall) in 'Il principe cerca moglie' (1988) di John Landis (1988). Al cinema Amos ha partecipato a diverse pellicole, tra le quali 'Kaan principe guerriero' (1982), '58 minuti per morire - Die Harder' (1990), 'Mac' (1992) di John Turturro e 'Il dottor Dolittle 3' (2006). Ha inoltre interpretato il capitano Meissner nel film 'Sorvegliato speciale' (1989) con Sylvester Stallone ed è apparso nell'episodio 'Il gatto nero' del film 'Due occhi diabolici' (1990) di Dario Argento.Â
