(Adnkronos) - Jannik Sinner chiuderà il suo 2024 da numero uno del mondo. Il successo contro Tomas Machac nella semifinale del Masters 1000 di Shanghai ha infatti certificato che il tennista azzurro sarà ancora al primo posto del ranking almeno fino al prossimo Australian Open, in programma dal 6 al 26 gennaio 2025. L'elimazione di Carlos Alcaraz nei quarti, proprio per mano di Machac, poi sconfitto da Sinner in semifinale, aveva già certificato che Jannik sarebbe stato il primo italiano di sempre a chiudere in vetta alla classifica Atp.Â
Sinner al momento ha un vantaggio di ben 3020 punti su Alcaraz, tornato al secondo posto grazie al successo di Pechino ottenuto contro l'amico Jannik. Per colmare il gap lo spagnolo dovrebbe vincere a Bercy, un torneo tra Basilea e Vienna e le Finals di Torino senza perdere nemmeno una partita. Ma non basta: Carlos infatti dovrebbe anche conquistare un 250 nella settimana tra Bercy e Torino, a cui però non si è iscritto e, contestualmente, Sinner non dovrebbe ottenere nessun punto fino a novembre. Calcoli e incastri impossibili, resi ad ogni modo vani dalla finale raggiunta dall'azzurro a Shanghai.Â
Non può nulla nemmeno Alexander Zverev, numero 3 Atp. Il tedesco ha saltato Pechino e non è riuscito a difendere il titolo a Chengdu, venendo poi eliminato da Goffin agli ottavi di Shanghai. Sascha è molto lontano da Sinner, con oltre 4000 punti di distacco e, fino al termine dell'anno, non ha alcuna possibilità di raggiungerlo.Â
