"Vediamo che la posizione del governo italiano è più moderata rispetto alla politica di molti altri paesi europei e, prestando attenzione a questo, la valutiamo di conseguenza". Il presidente russo Vladmir Putin si esprime così sulla posizione dell'Italia nel quadro internazionale legato alla guerra tra Ucraina e Russia. Secondo Putin, che risponde alle domande delle agenzie internazionali in un incontro a San Pietroburgo, "in Italia la russofobia dei cavernicoli non sta prosperando e questo lo teniamo in considerazione".
Una volta conclusa la guerra in Ucraina, Putin auspica un rapido ripristino dei rapporti con l'Italia. Citato da Ria Novosti, il presidente russo dice: "Speriamo vivamente che prima o poi, dopo la fine della guerra, saremo in grado di ripristinare le relazioni con l'Italia, e forse anche più velocemente che con qualsiasi altro paese europeo".
