Il medico, grazie alla sua professione, possiede una visione privilegiata dei diversi sentimenti e delle sfaccettature che compongono l’animo umano, talmente vario da poter essere considerato unico per ciascun individuo. Attraverso la narrazione di episodi realmente accaduti, e che a volte sfiorano il grottesco, il libro si addentra nelle molteplici note caratteriali, culturali ed emozionali di numerosi pazienti, sia comuni che personaggi noti del mondo dello spettacolo, della politica e dello sport. Considerare il carattere del paziente aiuta il medico a curare, oltre che i sintomi, la persona e non semplicemente la malattia, togliendo quella “maschera” che a volte impedisce di esprimerci quali realmente siamo.
Salvatore Mazzarino, nato a Roma nel 1961, si è laureato in Medicina e Chirurgia presso l’Università degli Studi di Catania nel 1987; nel 1990 si è specializzato, nella stessa Università, in Endocrinologia. Dopo alcuni anni trascorsi presso la divisione clinicizzata di Endocrinologia dell’ospedale Garibaldi di Catania, ha intrapreso la libera professione che svolge in diverse città italiane (Catania, Roma, Cosenza, Avellino).
