La presentazione del volume, pubblicato da “Villaggio Letterario” nella collana di studi “4 Elements”, è in programma venerdì 22 settembre, alle 18,30 nel Piccolo Museo della Natura “Radici”, in via Antonio Gagini, 23 a Palermo. Introduce Raffaella Quattrocchi, direttrice del Museo Radici. Ingresso libero.
“Storie sospese tra la Terra e il Cielo” ha per sottotitolo “Scoperte e sfide dell’astronomia e delle scienze spaziali”. La fortuita scoperta del Big Bang, i problematici indizi di vita elementare su Marte, le dispute sulle prime osservazioni astronomiche, l’unico caso scientificamente documentato di un meteorite che abbia colpito un essere umano, le comete fra buoni e cattivi presagi, come voleremo fino ad Alpha Centaruri, la stella più vicina e molto altro sono fra i temi trattati in questo volume di Franco Foresta Martin, che offre al lettore più di cinquanta avvincenti letture su argomenti di astronomia classica e moderna, di scienze spaziali e di geofisica. Le storie di questa ricca antologia ripropongono molti dei temi trattati dall’Autore in una sua rubrica del periodico “Astronomia”, una rivista di ricerca, divulgazione e didattica edita da oltre mezzo secolo dall’Unione Astrofili Italiani (UAI), associazione di cui Foresta Martin è stato fra i fondatori nel 1967. Alcuni fili sottili tengono insieme tutte queste letture: la loro originalità, la passione scientifica che anima i loro protagonisti, la contemplazione e lo svelamento dell’Universo come progetto da realizzare procedendo per tentativi, errori e successi. Insomma, cinquanta “pezzi” (per dirla alla Feynman) facili e piacevoli, ma scientificamente rigorosi, illustrati con cura, che terranno i lettori sospesi per alcune ore fra la Terra e il Cielo.
Franco Foresta Martin, geologo e divulgatore scientifico, è stato per oltre trent’anni redattore scientifico del Corriere della Sera, trattando argomenti di Scienze della Terra, Fisica, Astronomia, Energia e Ambiente. Nel 2007 l’Unione Astronomica Internazionale ha dato il suo cognome a un pianetino che orbita fra Marte e Giove. È autore di numerosi testi di divulgazione scientifica e ricercatore associato presso l’Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia.
